Let’s admit it; one of the biggest drags about having a baby is weight gain while pregnant. It appears as though Mother Nature has “stacked the deck” against us. Between the ridiculous food cravings and feeling dog-tired continuously how are we supposed to stay clear of packing on the pregnancy pounds? I mean, with the exception of those genetic freaks that appear to be skinnier than before they got pregnant and appear like a super model as soon as they deliver their child, the rest of us end up giving the impression of the Good Year blimp.
Well, the good news is that being pregnant and putting on weight do not really need to go hand in hand. You are able to look good in pregnancy, maybe not super model good looking, yet you can easliy preserve some semblance of normal weight by way of diet and exercise to avoid packing on excessive pregnancy pounds. Dieting and exercise you say? But I could not even keep a good dieting and exercise plan going before I got pregnant! That is certainly ok. Imagine, now you have got extra motivation to follow along with a good dieting and exercise program when pregnant. You aren’t only doing it for yourself, you are also doing it for that little baby growing within you.
Why don’t we take a look at diet first. And, no, I do not mean diet as in the most recent celebrity diet. I am referring to what kinds of foods you consume and just how much of it you take in. A lot of expecting mothers lie on the couch just like the Queen of Sheeba eating whatever they’re able to get into their mouths. Yes I’m talking about those dreadful cravings. Pickles, Ice Cream, Taco Bell, deep fried Twinkies, you name it and pregnant women have craved it.
As hard as it might seem to be, you are able to refrain from these cravings with a little self control. If you need some inspiration, understand that gaining excessive weight while pregnant could hurt your child. Numerous studies have demonstrated that women who experience too much weight gain during pregnancy have high risk for gestational diabetes. You do not have to totally avoid the foods you crave, just have a bit of self control. Crave ice cream? Have a small bowl; you do not have to inhale the entire half gallon. Follow a well balanced diet made up of different types of foods to get all of your nutritional requirements. You actually need not eat much more than you did before you got pregnant. “But I am eating for two” you say? Research shows that expectant women only need to consume about 300 additional calories daily to provide their baby a proper amount of nourishment.
As far as exercising goes it is safe and healthy to workout while pregnant. The advantages are many and all very good. From a healthier newborn, to an easier pregnancy and delivery it’s a great idea to take part in some sort of physical exercise when expecting to avoid too much weight gain during pregnancy. There are lots of pregnancy fitness programs out there. They will help motivate you and guide you through a workout program which is comprised of exercises properly tailored to help not simply prevent weight gain during pregnancy but to truly help you look great and feel excellent.
